   THE ARABIC DEPARTMENT  
 

 

Arabic as a language rich in many aspects and of great attraction not only has a long history , but it has also been expanding to cover large parts of the world . It enjoys quite considerable qualities which make teaching and learning it necessary . Delicately organized structures , rich vocabulary , a dynamic mechanism to receive and absorb from other languages , a variety of expressions , … are among the most significant features of this language . Arabic is the language of the Moslems' holy book , the Quran , which has cherished the glorious Islamic heritage of parables , history, and religious interpretations .
Arabic is also the common language of millions of people who live in a vast region extending from the Middle East to North Africa. Because of the great development of the mass media such as satellite TV channels, the internet , and the press , Arabic is gaining more grounds and more extensive usage .On the other hand learning Arabic for Iranians who have adored religious enlightenments , and whose language , Farsi , is closely interwoven with it sharing a lot in literature and philosophy has become more and more important . The expanding economic and cultural ties with their Arab neighbors have added to the attraction of learning Arabic . Therefore , The Iran language Institute , as a leading school of teaching languages in Iran established its Arabic Department in 1989 in Tehran and several major cities throughout the nation to help the expansion of the Arabic language .
 

1 .The objectives of teaching Arabic

a.To help learners speak a fluent and accurate Arabic in scientific , business, cultural and tourist situations ,

b.To help learners better understand the rich Islamic culture ,

c.To help learners make better use of the Islamic era scientific and cultural texts ,

d.To help learners communicate with more than one billion Moslems across the world , and to achieve the progressive model of the dialog of civilizations especially with the eastern nations ,

e.To facilitate the usage of Arabic in organizations dealing with the mass media and cultural , tourist , commercial , educational , informational affairs , etc. ,

f.To help school and university students be more successful with their lessons in Arabic as well as entrance exams of universities at different levels ,

g.To help learners make use of Arabic TV & Radio channels as well as newspapers , magazines and internet sites .

 

2.The Arabic department offers courses in two fields :

  1.  Conversation in three stages :

    ·        Elementary in four levels

    ·        Intermediate in four levels

    ·        Advanced in four levels

     For the conversation classes , the ILI Arabic Department has adapted a new audio - video method based on developing the four skills called  " The Echo of Life ". This method helps learning the modern Arabic through teachers who are well acquainted with applied Arabic . Upon completing the course , learners will be able to speak , read and write Arabic .

     

  2.  Elementary in four levels

·        General in four levels

·        Specialized in four levels

First , learners learn general grammar in a comprehensive course , then move to the specialized stage in which they master the Arabic grammar at a more extensive level together with concise knowledge of rhetoric .

3. Regulations

  •  Courses are offered at the beginning of each season . There are 4 terms in a year . Every term takes 21 sessions to complete . Classes of 105 minutes each meet twice a week .

  •  Learners can take a placement test if they are inclined to .

  •  Learners should be either 14 years old or have completed the second grade of guidance school .
