   THE GERMAN DEPARTMENT

The German Department of the Iran Language Institute was founded in collaboration with the German Institute of Carl Duisberg Centren. Using up-to-date materials, the department has adopted the communicative approach to teach German thus avoiding a pure structural       methodology.

The German Department offers courses in two different stages; the basic stage Grundstufe, and the intermediate stage mittelstufe. Learners with little German background take an entry test for placement.

The basic stage Grundstufe

This stage includes 12 levels (GA1-GA12). These levels are covered in 504 hours of regular classes, and 428 hours of intensive classes.
The teaching textbooks and material are designed to help learners with no German background (true beginners) gradually acquire the competence to communicate in social situations. Upon completing the stage, the learners sit for a final exam to get the Diplom Deutsch. The course book used for this stage is a communicative one called”Moment mal!"
The course book is published by Langenscheidt publications. The course consists of 3 volumes with cassette tapes and a CD.

The intermediate stage Mittelstufe

These levels are covered in 336 hours of regular and intensive classes. Learners who complete the basic stage can start this 8-level-intermediate stage (MA1-MA8), and further develop their language skills. There are two sections in this stage, i.e., MI & MII. At the end of each section, learners are expected to take the test designed for each level. Upon completing the stage and passing the final exam, learners will receive the Diplom Mittelstufe. The last two levels; MA7 and MA8 focus on the DSH Exam.
“em” is course book used in this stage. The course book is published by Max Heuber and includes 3 volumes: 1) Bruakenkurs, 2) Hauptkurs, and 3) Abschlusskurs. Applicants of both stages may take a placement test if they are acquainted with German.
