This book has been compiled to teach
spoken Persian in a crash course. The course
addresses the needs of learners interested in
learning Persian, but cannot participate in long
instructional programs. Thus, in compiling this
book, there has been an attempt to teach some of the
most frequent grammatical patterns and Persian
words, as well as some idiomatic phrases in spoken
Persian.
The main features of the book are as
follows:
-
The language taught in this crash course in
standard Persian spoken in
Iran.
-
Persian instruction is done without the medium of
any other language.
-
Teaching is carried out without using Persian
alphabet; emphasis is put on phonetic alphabet.
-
The book for this crash course is not a
teach-yourself one; it should be used in a
classroom, and with a teacher.

The Organization of this crash course
The crash
course consists of an introduction plus seventeen
lessons. The introduction is intended to provide the
learners with an opportunity to become familiar with
both the phonological system and pronunciation
patterns of Persian.
Lessons 1 through 15 consist of the following parts:
Memorize , Learn , Repeat ,
Read and Answer.
-
MEMORIZE:
This part includes short conversations which
have been compiled to teach spoken Persian. Care
has been taken to make the sentences in these
dialogs short, simple and clear. This would
enable learners to understand and memorize them
easily.
- LEARN:
This part includes paragraphs which cover
certain grammatical patterns.
- REPEAT
AND READ: These parts include
exercises which consolidate the materials in the
first part, and activate the vocabulary in the
previous and new lessons. In the first lesson
the Repeat pattern and in subsequent lessons the
Read patterns are used.
- ANSWER:
This part includes various exercises through
which the acquired knowledge is tested.
Lessons 16 and 17 have been organized differently. Teachers who wish to teach standard written language can use the contents of lesson 16. In this lesson a few grammatical patterns are also presented. Lesson 17 is devoted to presenting persian alphabet, helping learners to benefit from persian books and references more effectively.
