This book includes three
stories:
1- Lessons from a Pony
The boy is so excited. He can’t believe his ears. The horse- a
beautiful pony- is his, all his own. He begins to teach her tricks
right away. He teaches her many things. But apparently it is not only
the pony that learns lessons: the boy’s father is going to learn a
useful lesson too.
2- The Catfish of the River and Uncle Pidcock
The men in town talked of nothing but Uncle Pidcock and the catfish:
“Will Pidcock get the catfish or the catfish gets Pidcock?” they asked
jokingly. They would have to wait for a “little” while to find out,
though.
3- An American Cowboy
Men said the horse was a killer. Better men had tried to capture it,
but all had failed. Jed, however, had made up his mind. The horse, he
thought, could make all his dreams come true. But the chase could as
well cost him his life - and all his dreams!
