The simplified stories in this collection are all taken from the Masnavi of Jalal al-Din Rumi (1207-1273), better known as Molavi in Iran. The Masnavi is not only a giant masterpiece of Persian literature but also a unique example of religious parables. This great literary work consists of some 25,000 rhyming couplets. It is divided into six books, each of which abundant with stories of various themes.
The present collection presents ten short stories selected from these six books. In retelling these stories, care has been taken to avoid both lexical and structural complexities in order to provide pleasant reading material for students of English. Thus it is hoped that intermediate as well as upper-intermediate students will benefit from reading this collection. Each story has a vocabulary exercise. At the end of the collection there is a glossary which, provides readers with the meaning of unfamiliar words.
