Folktales are relatively short stories found in almost all oral
traditions of the world. They include fables, beast fables, legends,
fairy tales, ghost stories, husband-and-wife tales, master-and-servant
tales, and also stories of giants, goblins, devils and spirits. The
tales presented in this collection come from different times and
places, but they represent only a minute fraction of the age-old
tradition of oral storytelling now on the decline.
