Fables are short, amusing narratives created primarily to teach what is supposed to be a universal truth or a useful lesson which is called the moral of the fable and is usually summed up in one single statement at the end of the story. Many fables, generally referred to as beast fables, have animals with human qualities as characters involved in interesting human situations. The fables in this collection, all adaptations of the original ones, have long been enjoyed by people of all ages for their comic entertaining stories as well as the truths they reveal about human nature.
